Visit Our Family Resource Centers

A cozy library corner with wooden shelves filled with books and toys, a round table with chairs, and windows letting in natural light.

Harbor Regional Center’s Family Resource Centers serves individuals, families, friends, service providers, students, Regional Center employees, other professionals, and the communities in the South Bay, Lakewood, Bellflower, Norwalk, Long Beach, and the Beach Cities areas of Los Angeles County. Our goal is to provide support, information, and choice through multi-media information and resources, education, training materials and opportunities, and parent-to-parent support groups and activities.

Harbor Regional Center operates three Family Resource Center sites in Torrance, Long Beach, and Norwalk. The sites are open during business hours.

Find Support

Our libraries house more than 6,000 books, pamphlets, journals, audio-visual media materials, and in-house publications about regional center services and supports. We offer resources and information about local community programs and organizations.

Harbor Regional Center offers informative presentations and trainings on a wide range of topics. Depending upon your or your loved one’s age and needs, there are many opportunities throughout the year to learn about topics at your own pace. Regularly check out our online calendar for scheduled trainings and events!

At the Family Resource Center, you will find a range of developmental toys that are available for lending at no charge. From story readers to sentence building blocks, caregivers can borrow toys which promote cognitive, language, and motor development. The Toy Lending Library was created by a special educator to offer fun and developmentally appropriate toys for families to take home and use. Toy play stimulate children and helps to increase their skills.

Each toy in our library comes with a toy dialogue. The toy dialogue helps caregivers to teach basic language skills, physical skills, or cognitive to their children. Below is an example of a toy dialogue:

Remove all the puzzle pieces from the Board. Show your child the Letter A, and then say, “Can you say A? Very good! A is for apple. A- apple.”

Harbor Regional Center offers you several ways to connect with others, whether it is with someone who has experienced a new diagnosis or for parents seeking support from other parents. Through the Harbor Family Resource Centers, you can find parent support groups, or talk one-on-one with parent support specialists or parent mentors. Our Family Resource Center team are often family members of someone with a developmental disability.
