Our adult clients and their families are assisted to identify appropriate adult day activity options, and resources, based upon their individual needs and interests, through the development of their individual/family service plan.
Adults are encouraged and assisted to take advantage of opportunities to pursue employment, with assistance from a supported employment program if appropriate, or to pursue continuing education opportunities if they prefer.
Adult Day Programs offer meaningful training and activities for adults with developmental disabilities who are no longer eligible for public school, who are not involved in continuing education through a university or community college, and who are not currently working or participating in a vocational program.
Programs promote inclusion in the community to the maximum degree possible. Clients in these programs may spend some time in the community and some time at the program’s site participating in skill-building and personal enrichment activities based upon individual needs and interests. Clients choose from a wide range of meaningful activities, such as cooking, computer use, physical exercise, artistic projects, etc.
Programs also offer specialized or therapeutic services and schedules to meet the needs of older adults, clients with special health needs, etc, who may require a less rigorous activity program.
The HRC Booklet, Places to To, Things To Do, provides a wealth of ideas for Adult Day Activity Programs to use in planning their various activities in the South Bay/Long Beach and surrounding communities. |
