At Harbor Regional Center, we’re committed to offering our families the support needed in caring day-to day for a family member with a developmental disability. Support can come from informal sources, such as immediate and extended family members, friends, neighbors, religious organizations, and other parents of children with special needs.
It can also come from more formal resources, such as your HRC Counselor, the HRC Resource Center, other professionals and service provider organizations. Attending one of our many educational workshops or speaker series, exploring the materials in the Resource Center, and participating in a family support group are a few of the ways you can access information and supports. We also periodically offer special sibling support groups. Let your HRC Counselor know if you are interested in any of these opportunities.
Parent to Parent Support (click here for flyer in English and Spanish)
Do you or someone you know need someone to talk to? Our trained parent volunteers would like to help. At HRC we also offer parents the opportunity to connect one-on-one with an experienced parent (called a Parent Mentor) who is trained to listen to your concerns, provide 1:1 emotional support, and share common experiences which may be helpful. If you are a parent of a child newly diagnosed with a developmental disability, and you are interested in talking with a Parent Mentor volunteer, contact the HRC Resource and Assistive Technology Center at (310) 543-0691 or email Dominique.Deborba@harborrc.org.
If you are new to HRC or are from outside of our service area, but would like to talk to a Mentor Parent, contact the HRC Family Resource Center at (310) 543-0691. |
