While our clients and their families receive a wide range of services and supports through the regional center, many often have additional needs that fall outside of our guidelines for purchasing or providing services. Some of these people have few if any financial or other resources to meet these needs. Because of this, we have established a special fund, called the Harbor Help Fund, to enable us to purchase at least some of the products and services that can be so vital to the quality of our clients’ lives. This fund is supported by donations and has been used over the years for things such as emergency rent payments and to purchase clothing, food, and other supports for clients in need.
One important Harbor Help Fund enterprise is our Holiday Giving Project. Money from the Help Fund provides our neediest families with food for holiday dinners and also helps ensure that children or adults with developmental disabilities do not have a lonely or giftless holiday.
Without the generosity and thoughtful donations of our friends, none of the necessities or special “extras” provided by the Harbor Help Fund would be possible. We are grateful to those members of the HRC community for their willingness to share, by giving so generously to our neediest clients and families.
